Hello to my first official cold winter outfits post of the season! We finally got the freezing weather I’ve been expecting since November at the beginning of January. It was definitely nice to feel the cold (yes I just said that) and break out all my heavier coats and turtlenecks, though I’m not sure how long this feeling will last, haha.
This year I’ve added a new winter coat from Uniqlo as my smart jacket that I can wear to more formal events or meetings. It’s simple, clean and has a nice cut that gives you shape and look very put together, the weight is not as heavy as I was expecting but it actually keeps me warm in the 30 deg weather so I’m fairly impressed! And then there’s also this little red number I got as a Christmas present from J.Crew which is a very nice surprise and adds a little color to my closet. I also think it’s about time to give in and get a long down jacket for those below freezing days where I want my knees to be covered and protected from the wind… I’ve always been against them because I thought they look very bulky and ugly, so I’m hoping I’ll find one that still looks feminine and will keep me warm. I’m officially becoming a northern(-ish) girl!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an “A week in outfits” post, sorry guys! I’ve been savoring the extra 10 min of sleep every morning instead of waking up early to take photos… Anyway, I’m finally posting my first outfit post for the winter! A lot of the items were thrifted from eBay/Poshmark or bought from abroad, so I’ll try to do my best to find similar pieces and link them. Hope y’all enjoy!

I can’t believe its taken me this long to finally finish this post… Since I was away for the holiday I didn’t really have time to fully prepared for my winter capsule wardrobe, so it’s taken me a while to complete the edits… But I’m glad it’s finally done!
I have a lot of tops carrying over from my fall capsule wardrobe, I pulled out a few from my storage, and have 3 new items. My bottoms however, are all new because the ones I had for my fall wardrobe are way too thin/short for the winter unfortunately. The main focus of my capsule wardrobe are the coats, I love them all and am so happy with my picks! A neutral/tan color formal coat and a pepper color oversize coat from my storage, a brown/olive color anorak with fur hoodie from Nordstrom and an amazing 100% shearling coat I found on eBay! They are all extremely warm and comfortable, and have been keeping me warm during my first winter in DC.
Overall, I’m glad that a lot of the tops I have in my winter wardrobe are the same as my fall wardrobe, which means I’m starting to narrow down my style! I’ve also come to accept the fact that it’s hard/impossible to keep the same coats in my fall and winter rotation since I live in a city where the temperature can drop to the teens during winter… But I really enjoy having 4 distinct season because it allows me to have more opportunities to play around with outfits. I’m glad I’m keeping up with the capsule wardrobe challenge, and can’t wait to see more progress on finding my style!
I was never a slippers gal, I thought they were kind of restricting and annoying, and I also didn’t think they’re that practical because I have lots of socks in my drawers that I can easily put on if my feet get cold. But I recently gave in because I wanted something that I can easily slip on and off if I need to run out real quick and for whenever I go over to Brian’s house (hardwood floors everywhere = cold to walk around), I opt for a cheap pair from TJ Maxx because I wanted to see how often I’ll actually wear them, and the answer is all the damn time! I wear them in the house, outside the house (I picked out one with thick rubber soles which allows them to be wearable outdoor, but usually only to and from my car), whenever I can. There’s just something about a pair of fuzzy slippers that puts you in a good mood and the holiday spirit, and I’m loving them!
I’ve round up a few adorable options that I absolutely love, hopefully they’ll help keep your feet warm 24/7!

With winter fast approaching and Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, I’ve started planning my winter capsule wardrobe so I can make sure I get a good deal during the sales.
I got some ideas of what I need to deal with the winter here in DC thanks to the below freezing temperature we have here recently, so to start the prep I’ve made a list of things I think I will need to survive the winter. Lots of warm cozy knits, big coats, warm boots, etc. Here’s a short list of things with links to a few items I will most likely be adding to my wardrobe:
- Winter coat // Seriously loving this, this, and this. I like my coats to be on the large side so I can layer thick/chunky knits underneath and still be comfortable!
- Oversize cardigan // Can’t wait to snuggle in this and this! I just want to be all wrapped up in these, they’re great for layering too.
- Warm boots // An important element to surviving the snow day and to avoid slipping, you can’t go outside without this, this, this or this.
- Cords // Sometimes jeans are just not thick enough for the cold winter, to keep your legs warm try this, this and this.
- Knits // You really don’t need a reason to cozy up, this one and this one are my top choices!
Don’t forget to subscribe to the stores you love for their Black Friday deals! Some stores like Madewell and Shopbop already started theirs so make sure to grab the hot items you want before they’re gone!
