The bush sure is one magical place. It is something I’ve always seen on TV, but never imagined I would have the opportunity to actually witness myself.

We stayed at 2 different private game reserve, where we saw very different vegetation and landscape. Both had amazing rangers and trackers that educated us on the animals, plants, and environment, every safari drive was a unique experience, nothing is ever the same. This truly was a once in a lifetime experience, I feel so blessed to have been able to experience it, and encourage the ones that are interested and able, to go out and experience the bush for yourself. I hope that one day I’ll be able to come back again!

I don’t think any pictures can do what I’ve seen in South Africa justice. I’ve left all the photos unedited for my SA post, because I want everyone to be able to view the beauty of this place without going through a filter. It is truly a magical place and experience, I feel very lucky to have been able to visit and hope to return again one day.

During this trip, we were able to experience 2 very different places that South Africa has to offer – one in the city of Cape Town, the other out in the bush in Kruger National Park. There are simply too many pictures taken, too many beautiful scenic seen, and too many amazing people encountered. If you’ve ever thought about visiting, do it, you will enjoy every moment of it!

A mini Houston work trip

Taking a work trip is always exciting but stressful for me. I feel like there are a lot of responsibility associated with it, but at the same time you get to see and visit some of the places you otherwise wouldn’t.

This past week I had a mini work trip to Houston, it was my first time visiting the city and I was excited to have a look around. We visited the Toyota Center (and all the VIP and behind the scene area that are normally restricted/not allowed for outsiders), the George. R. Brown Convention Center, different hotels in downtown Houston, and also the NRG stadium. I was able to do some sight seeing while doing our site visit, and also met some amazing people that are really great at what they do.

It was an eye opening client meeting for me as I don’t usually get to experience the “planning” side of things, and it also made me appreciate all the events I attend and design more after seeing how much work goes into planning an event. Here’s a little taste of Houston! Hopefully I’ll be able to go back and actually spend some time exploring the city next time!

Home is where the heart is

Sorry for the 2 weeks break on here guys! I took a long overdue 2 week vacation home to Taiwan at the beginning of February, and it was amazing! I don’t get to go home as often as I would like anymore ever since I started working because tickets are quite pricey and it takes almost 24 hrs to get home, which means I’ll have to at least be able to take off a week of work to make going home worth the time and money. But going home always makes me so happy, even if it’s only 2 short weeks. I was so glad to be home and see my friends and family. It was a not too short but not too long vacation, and I miss it so much already.

This year, I was able to go home for Chinese New Year for a little over 2 weeks! This trip has been in the planning since last summer, and I was beyond excited when it was actually time to travel. Unlike past trips home, this year Brian came with me and he was able to meet my family and friends and see me in my comfort zone. And this time I also made a conscious decision to spend more time with my family, which I’m very glad I did. When I was younger, I spent most of my time home with my friends and I barely get to spend any quality time with my parents and grandparents, as I grow older I’m starting to realize and appreciate more of the importance of family, though I didn’t get to see all the friends I would like this time around, I’m so glad I was able to spend a lot of time with my family.

Here are some of the pictures I’ve taken during my trip home with my (and some from my friend’s) iPhone! This year since Brian was with me we did a lot more tourist-y things and saw a lot of places I usually wouldn’t (and some that I’ve never been to before). It was a different experience compare to my past trips but in a good way. Hope you enjoy my little photo diary!

Long distance flight essentials | Beauty

In less than 2 weeks, I’ll be traveling home to Taiwan to spend time with my family for Chinese New Year! Even though I’m going home and my mom usually have plenty of skin care items ready for me to use and bring back, I still need to pack some travel size things for me to use on the plane. So today I’m going to go over items that will be in my travel bag for my 20+ hour flight.

I usually avoid having any makeup item in my travel bag because the reality is, I just want my skin to feel as comfortable and breathable as possible when I’m traveling, so I don’t want to have any makeup on. And it is most likely I will be sleeping for half of the flight anyway, so having a clear face will also help avoid accidentally sleeping with makeup on. The one thing I’m consider packing will be a brow pencil, because I personally can’t live without brows and refuse to go out in public without them done, haha.

I saved up a lot of my sample size items for when I have to do a weekend travel bringing a carry-on only. To me doing a long distance travel a face wash that helps me freshen up is a must because you want your face nice and clean before applying any toner, serum and/or moisturizer. I will usually also pack some cleansing wipes for when I just want a quick and easy pick me up and don’t feel like getting out of my seat.

During the flight, you want to make sure your skin stay hydrated, so I like to bring some serums and moisturizers to apply. Having hand cream and foot cream on deck is also great for fighting dryness on my hands/feet, but if they are at a place that’s hard to reach or if I am feeling lazy, I’ll use the extra moisturizers from the sample pack on my hands, neck and feet because those sample pack are usually not resealable.

This will also be the first time I pack a little eye cream with me, as insignificant as it sounds, eyes are usually the first thing people notice when they see you, so avoid looking tired around the eyes is the best way to look “put together” when traveling.

One thing that didn’t make it in the picture is a good lip balm, it’s an item I make sure I have no matter where I go, so I guess it’s not specific for the long distance travel. But I always make sure I have at least one lip balm in my handbag when I travel and since my lip color is naturally darker, I keep a few lip glosses or lip sticks in my bag too to give my lips some extra lifelines.

What do you take with you when you travel? Anything else I’m missing?

City of angels photo diary

Last weekend I took a trip out to LA and visited one of my best friends, it’s been on my to-do list for a very long time and I finally did it!  It was my very first time visiting the city (have stopped by many times for my layover but was never able to get out and look around) and everything just feels so relaxing in this city, it was a very different vibe than anywhere I’ve ever been to.  Brian told me I looked extremely happy all weekend and he’s never seen me stay this happy and energetic for this long (I get tired really easily…ha), and honestly I think this was the happiest and most excited I’ve been about visiting a place in a very long time.  I really wish I could take a trip back soon, and maybe one day live the west coast life!

I visited a lot of places during my short stay, but there are so many more I want to see!  Even though it wasn’t much, I wanted to share with you guys the bits of LA I was able to experience.  Hope you enjoy!

Seeing paradise

This Christmas, I was incredibly lucky to be able to go on a vacation with Brian’s family to the islands of Hawaii.  During my time there I got to go on a helicopter which was so darn cool, ride a bike down from a volcano, do some sunning and beaching, get down low in a submarine and of course drinking mai tai on the beach!  The views are breathtaking, mountains are vibrant green, beach is crystal clear and the ocean is a gorgeous blue.  It is truly a paradise on earth.  Cruise was such a cool way to see all the islands. it’s pretty much like a moving hotel and everyday you get to discover a different part of an island.  These past 10 days flew by and everything seems like a dream, I can’t be thankful enough for this opportunity, and hope that one day I will be able to go back to visit again.
