I don’t usually wear sneakers out other than when going to the gym because I thought they make my feet look like clown feet. But ever since I got my Nike Free 5.0 last year I just can’t seem to get enough of them. I love the clean and simple look it gives and since they’re black it’s also very easy to pair with your everyday outfit should you choose to change things up a bit. And my love for the Nike Free doesn’t stop at the looks, as they’re also extremely comfortable to wear and great for hiking, working out at the gym, running everyday errands, etc. So to me, they’re the perfect do it all shoes.

I saw this pair of floral print Free a while ago when this edition came out and loved it, but at the time I wasn’t very active or in need of a new pair of sneakers so I decided not to get them. After taking my black pair up a volcano and down to the beach, and all over the country with me, I thought maybe it’s time to look into getting another pair I can rotate them with. I looked at many different colors, some extremely bright teal or corals, but none really speak to me the way the floral print pair did. One day while browsing through Nordstrom’s website I saw them, there they are staring at me right in the face, the floral print Nike Free that I loved so much but didn’t purchase out of practicality and then sold out shortly after, available in my size (they’re still currently available but in limited sizes). I didn’t hesitate to pick them up, and now my black Nike Free 5.0 has a friend.

I’m still in the phase of figuring out how I can wear sneakers with my normal outfits without looking strange, but experiencing is half the fun in finding your own style right? If worst comes to worst, I’ll just always look really stylish at the gym, haha.

I’ve been loving some of the items I got earlier this year in preparation for fall and some new bits I’ve acquired recently. Capsule wardrobe challenge is still happening, but I’m not done prepping my wardrobe yet, there are still a few items that need to be added… But you can see my recently obsession with my black booties from ASOS and black jeans from Madewell. I especially love the fit of the Madewell jeans, if you haven’t already you should definitely give them a try!

On my mind lately #13

Today’s on my mind lately I want to focus on something I’ve actually never thought I would, the OTK (over the knee) boots! I’m fairly petite sitting at around 5’2.5″/160cm, and my body proportion is also not the best, so you can kinda imagine how short my legs are. I avoided OTK boots for years because they usually make me look even shorter, or the cut of where you knee is supposed to bend is too high for my legs… But recently I’ve just been in the mood for black boots and after seeing them all over the web I decided to snoop around the OTK section on various websites. I really don’t like heels that are too skinny or high because it’s not very practical, so wanted to focus on boots with chunky heels around 3 inches, but knowing my body proportion I think wearing something with some height will probably look best. Below are some of my picks with a mix of low and high heel over the knee boots! Do you have a favorite pair of over the knee boots?

otk boots

  1. Sam Edelman Kate Over The Knee Boot
  2. Stuart Weitzman Highway Boot
  3. Charles by Charles David Reed Suede Boot
  4. Ash Seven Boot
  5. Rebecca Minkoff Billie Over the Knee Boot
  6. Steve Madden Gorgeous Over the Knee Boot
  7. Stuart Weitzman Highland Over the Knee Boot

Little black boots

I’ve always been a brown boots girl, even though I’ve owned a few pairs of black boots before, they always seem to be neglected, live quietly at the corner of my closet for a few months and then to the donation pile. But recently I’ve been falling for everything black, particularly all black booties – black leather, black heels, black zippers, the whole nine yard.

My affection for black boots started with the Acne Studio Jensen Booties a few months back when I saw them on multiple blogs, they’re a pair of classic looking black pointed boots with low heel that looks super easy to walk in, sound right up my alley. But, I just couldn’t justify spending $500+ on a pair of boots at this stage of my life (or ever). When I found the ASOS Right About Now Western Pointed Chelsea Ankle Boots, I knew they would be a great, affordable dupe for me to try and see if I’ll actually like them on me. Upon receiving them and trying them on, I have to say I love them even more than I originally thought I would! They’re extremely comfortable and are so easy to slip on, the leather like material has a beautiful grain look which is what I wanted when looking at the Jensen (the Jensen comes in smooth, grain and suede I believe, but I think the grain looks the best and will also age the best). They’re truly a beautiful pair of boots and at such an amazing price point too! I’ve been looking for a pair of slip on boots to replace my brown Nine West ones for over a year, and I think I found them.

The second pair that’s been added to my collection was actually an unplanned purchase. I came across a pair of Madewell Ames Boots one day while browsing on Poshmark, at first I was just interested in them because of the amazing price tag (the “amazing sale you just can’t pass on” type buying urge), but after doing a little research and looking up some more photos of how they look on, I find myself constantly thinking about them. I actually waited a week or so – risking it being sold in the mean time, before purchasing them because I wasn’t 100% sure about the condition of the boots and the sizing, but I’m so glad I took the risk and got them! Even though there are some slight creasing you can see, it’s really not noticeable when you’re wearing them, and the size is actually perfect for my feet with socks on. I took them with me when I went down to Atlanta for a wedding, and they’re so comfortable and versatile that they ended up being the only shoes I wore all weekend other than the heels for the actual wedding. They’re not only great for elevating your outfit when you just want to wear a simple jeans and t-shirt combo, but also nice enough to pair with a more formal look. I wore them with my rehearsal dinner dress (ASOS Africa Lace Maxi Dress) and I love the look they add to the whole outfit, I even walked the Atlanta Beltline with them on afterwards and it didn’t cause any pain! They’re honestly the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten on Poshmark and I cannot be happier. (As a side note, I actually looked at the Ames boots last year in brown, but ended up going with another pair of brown boots. Who knew I would end up getting them a year later anyway!)

I love these 2 pairs so much that I’m seriously considering getting backups for them just in case, haha. I think they’ll be my go to for this F/W, but I also want to find another pair that are shorter, more ankle height to add to the mix. I loved the look of the Dolce Vita Jaeger Booties but the material didn’t exactly fit what I was looking for, so if you have a pair of black ankle boots you love or have seen some great ones online, please share with me!

Fall is truly a dreamy season. All the layers, colors, and long coats. I pretty much have only good things to say about fall. I’m so excited that fall is here (only technically, the temperature says otherwise)! It always gets me in the mood of looking at booties, leather jackets, and this season in particular, I have my eyes on the trench coats.

I was never a big trench coat person, I’ve had one and never wore it (and it is now on sale on my Poshmark). But for some reason my eyes are always drawn to them whenever I see someone wearing one. I’ve made it my mission to find the perfect trench coat for myself this season, and honestly it’s been a difficult task to say the least. Because I’m short, it is hard for me to find a nice, drapyey trench coat that fits my frame and looks good length wise at the same time. While the tall models can pull off a nice flowy trench coat, it is near impossible for me to mimic the style. I look like I stole the coat from the adult section and everything is just slightly too wide and too long.

Here are some picks I’ve been looking at, all look so dreamy and comfortable and flow so nicely. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find a few options in store to try on and see how they’ll actually fit on me, and hopefully will find some in petite sizes. Because I suspect the ones that hit the model at the knee will be more like mid calf length on me…

  1. Forever 21 Draped Trench Coat
  2. Forever 21 Belted Drapey Crepe Jacket
  3. Mango Flowy Trench
  4. Mango Zip Trench
  5. J.Crew Icon Trench
  6. ASOS White Pepper Duster Coat

It is almost time to start reviewing items for my capsule wardrobe that I’ve been somewhat ignoring this past few months since I’m between apartments. I was having a hard time following the capsule wardrobe rules because my clothes are scattered around the dresser, suitcase, storage boxes and basement, making it difficult to find the pieces that are actually in my capsule wardrobe. I’ve been just wearing whatever is most easily accessible this past 4 months, but hopefully once I moved everything will be easier to get to and I’ll be able to seriously organize my closet once again!

This week’s outfit is a mix of everything, and I think most of them will be great going forward for fall with the help of some extra layers! Hope you enjoy!

Another week of summer outfits, this week is gear more towards mixing and matching for comfortable work outfits. I’m really loving the dress under a top look, or using a dress as a top. And to my surprise, skirts has been one of my favorite things to wear recently because it helps cover my legs when I’m in the office but also helps combat the heat when I’m outside. What’s your go-to summer work outfits?
