Sephora Holiday Shopping Event Haul 2016 – The Makeup

November to me officially marks the beginning of the holiday season. All the holiday commercials are rolling out, decorations around the stores and shopping malls are going up, and the holiday gift sets of course are always something I’m excited to see.

For this haul I’m dividing up the makup and skin/bath and body portion so hopefully the post is not too wordy. Though I just received these products not that long ago so it will be hard to give a full review, I want to run through the list and my first impression of them!

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette
I’m extremely happy that I decided to get this palette! The colors are very different than what I usually wear but they’re all very wearable. I’m able to create looks that are very neutral but also can put out some super dramatic looks, which I lack in my collection. The formula is amazing and I really enjoy playing around with it so far.
  2. Viseart Blush Palette in Plum/Bronze
Pretty much all my blushes are very summer-y, so when I saw the  colors in this palette I couldn’t wait to try it out. I think the colors are perfect for the fall and winter, and the bronze will be great for the days you just want a little more definition on your face but don’t want to contour. But do keep in mind that they’re extremely pigmented, so use a very light hand when applying (especially the blush).
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario (an honorable mention)
I purchased this before the sale, but want to mention this in case you see one in store. This palette is one of the most gorgeous palette I’ve seen. Yes it’s another neutral palette, but I just couldn’t resist. The colors are so beautiful and the formula is so buttery, though I would be careful with the fallout. If you happen to come across this palette, BUY IT! It’s truly amazing.
  4. Tom Ford Ultra-Rich Lip Color in Revolve Around Me
This is my first ever Tom Ford lipstick! I’ve been wanting to try one but they don’t carry Tom Ford in the Nordstrom near me and I simply can’t justify buying a $53 lipstick… So when I saw Sephora started carrying some of their makeup items, I knew this would be my chance to try. The packaging is beautiful as you would expect, and I’m a little afraid to try the lipstick because I feel like I’m going to ruin the embossed logo, haha. I really do love the color from looking at it in the bullet tho, and can’t wait to try it out.
  5. Besame Cosmetics Classic Color Lipstick in Red Velvet
Red lips is something I love when I see it on others but never had the courage to try. When I discover this brand, I was very intrigued by their “classic reds” statement and the interesting shape of their lipstick. I got the Red Velvet which is slightly deeper red and not as orange or bright as a true red, but I think it suites my skin tone better.
  6. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Uptight
Another neutral lipstick, because a girl simply can’t have enough neutrals. I tried this color in store a while back and have been waiting for the sale to get it. I went with Uptight which is a Comfort Matte formula, a medium neutral color that is warm but not too brown. Sometimes I find a cool tone neutral can make me look a little dead so after many trial and error, I think I finally know what shades suites me best when it comes to neutral lipsticks.
  7. Buxom Lash Waterproof Mascara
Mascara is not something I get very excited about. I can never really tell the difference other than if it smudges on me or not. My eyelashes are not that impressive so even with a volumizing  mascara, you can’t really tell the difference from regular mascara. I was recommended this by my coworker so I thought why not? I plan on giving it a few try to see if it makes me feel “wow”.

Long distance flight essentials | Beauty

In less than 2 weeks, I’ll be traveling home to Taiwan to spend time with my family for Chinese New Year! Even though I’m going home and my mom usually have plenty of skin care items ready for me to use and bring back, I still need to pack some travel size things for me to use on the plane. So today I’m going to go over items that will be in my travel bag for my 20+ hour flight.

I usually avoid having any makeup item in my travel bag because the reality is, I just want my skin to feel as comfortable and breathable as possible when I’m traveling, so I don’t want to have any makeup on. And it is most likely I will be sleeping for half of the flight anyway, so having a clear face will also help avoid accidentally sleeping with makeup on. The one thing I’m consider packing will be a brow pencil, because I personally can’t live without brows and refuse to go out in public without them done, haha.

I saved up a lot of my sample size items for when I have to do a weekend travel bringing a carry-on only. To me doing a long distance travel a face wash that helps me freshen up is a must because you want your face nice and clean before applying any toner, serum and/or moisturizer. I will usually also pack some cleansing wipes for when I just want a quick and easy pick me up and don’t feel like getting out of my seat.

During the flight, you want to make sure your skin stay hydrated, so I like to bring some serums and moisturizers to apply. Having hand cream and foot cream on deck is also great for fighting dryness on my hands/feet, but if they are at a place that’s hard to reach or if I am feeling lazy, I’ll use the extra moisturizers from the sample pack on my hands, neck and feet because those sample pack are usually not resealable.

This will also be the first time I pack a little eye cream with me, as insignificant as it sounds, eyes are usually the first thing people notice when they see you, so avoid looking tired around the eyes is the best way to look “put together” when traveling.

One thing that didn’t make it in the picture is a good lip balm, it’s an item I make sure I have no matter where I go, so I guess it’s not specific for the long distance travel. But I always make sure I have at least one lip balm in my handbag when I travel and since my lip color is naturally darker, I keep a few lip glosses or lip sticks in my bag too to give my lips some extra lifelines.

What do you take with you when you travel? Anything else I’m missing?

After shower body care essentials

I venture around when it comes to body lotion, I like trying different formula and experimenting with different scents. Though one thing is very important to me and that is making my skin feel hydrated for an extended period of time.

I’ve been trying to find one that will work for me, ranging from drugstore to some more expensive brands. I find that a lot of the drugstore brands work extremely well for me and smells very neutral and comforting, so I guess the correlation of price and quality is not always positive? I personally prefer lotion over body cream because it’s not as thick and easier to apply, it also feels lighter on the skin which I like.

Currently I’m loving this Aveeno Positively Ageless Firming Body Lotion, the texture is spot on and the scent is pleasant but not obstructive. I do use it in conjunction with the L’Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream because my feet tends to get really dry especially when I’m walking around the house on carpet bare feet. I neglected taking care of my feet when I was young because I felt that it wasn’t necessary (it also made my feel slippery which I hate because I grew up in a house with tile and hardwood covering the majority of the floor). But as I get older they’re starting to feel dry at times and I’ve become more aware of them. Taking care of your body is important, it’s something my mom has always told me, I used to have selective hearing on what I should and should not care about, but now I’m definitely more appreciative on the different types of cream that are available out there!

Entering the world of Boscia skin care

I heard about Boscia on multiple occasions and seen them often online, but the idea of trying it out has never crossed my mind. Recently during my trip to Sephora for their VIB Holiday Shopping Event, the lady there saw me looking at some skin care items and asked me if I’d like to try out Boscia, I was hesitant because I had my mind set on some other items but said yes to her anyway.

She tried the products included in Japanese Cleansing Ritual for Flawless Skin the on my hand and to my surprise I really love the way they make my skin feel (the Exfoliating Peel Gel is especially satisfying). The  I proceed to try out other items like the Balancing Facial Tonic and the Sake Treatment Water to Hydrate and Brighten, and loved them both! My intention to go into the store was to try out another brand’s toner and serum that I wanted to buy, but I ended up getting all the Boscia products mentioned above because I fell in love with they way they make my skin feel. I almost got the Sake Balm (isn’t that name adorable?) as well but stopped myself because I still have plenty of moisturizer at home. So far I’m loving the way they cleanse my face, and am waiting to finish my current toner and serum to start using the Boscia ones. As much as I don’t like physically paying the store a visit, it’s always nice to discover new products that you usually won’t pay attention to!

Have you tried any Boscia products?

Sephora VIB Holiday Shopping Event haul 2015 – The fun stuff

When it comes to the Sephora VIB sale, there’s the practical order, and then there’s the fun order. I waited till the very last minute to place my “fun” order because I wanted to make sure I got everything I need first and see what I have left to spend on the fun stuff.

In my fun order, there are a few lip products, some adorably packaged face masks, and an eyeshadow palette that I’ve been dying to get my hands on. So in case you’re in the mood to do some Black Friday shopping or still need some ideas for Christmas presents, here’re some ideas!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita and Lolita II – I don’t own any liquid lipstick mainly because the ones I tried years ago left my lips super dry and I really hated it. But seeing this cute mini duo I couldn’t help but put it in my basket. I’m excited about the colors and staying power because I always ruin my lipstick less than an hour into work from snacking, and I’ve also heard a lot of good reviews about them so hopefully this will change my mind about liquid lipsticks.

Bite Beauty Bite Mix and Mingle in Latte and Cortado – I’ve heard a lot of good things about Bite Beauty but haven’t had a chance to try. When I saw this cutie pop up on different haul videos, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for me to test out the formula and colors (and this, ladies, is how they trick you into buying things you don’t need).

Urban Decay Matt Revolution Lipstick in 1993 – Ever since I saw this on Claire’s makeup tutorial, I knew I wanted to try it. The color is more on the darker, brown neutral side, which is perfect for my skin tone, especially in the colder months. I have not tried any Urban Decay lip products before so this will be a very exciting starter.

Too Cool For School Egg Cream Sheet Mask – To be honest, I’m a little afraid of this mask as it’s known to be slimy which is something I hate. But seeing so many good reviews and rave about it, I decided it’s worth a try and got a single use mask, because worse comes to worst I’ll just not purchase it again, right?

Tony Moly I’m Real Coconut Face Mask Sheet – Can you tell I’m having a moment for sheet masks? With all the Korean beauty/skin care products available on Sephora, it’s hard for anyone to not want to try it out. I love how cute the graphic on the packaging is, and I can’t wait to see what the hype is all about with Korean skin care.

Sephora Collection Eye Mask – Another much raved about item, this one is from Sephora’s own collection. I opt for the eye mask because recently I started noticing all the fine line and the more visible dark circle under my eyes, even though I apply eye cream nightly I think it’s time to give the surrounding eye area a little extra TLC.

Viseart Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Neutral Matte – Now this bad boy… The oh so expensive eyeshadow palette that costs you an arm and a leg. Honestly for the amount of product you get it really isn’t THAT expensive if you do the math, but when you first look at it, the price tag is definitely quite shocking. I’m pretty excited about the color range and how versatile this palette can be as many people state you can mix the color to create a contour shade, bronzer, and under eye color correcting shade.
