espadrille

After a long time of resisting, I’ve finally gave in and come to terms that summer is the perfect time for espadrilles! The plaited fiber sole just screams summer all over them. Although I’m still skeptical about how the sole will actually hold up after a hot summer, I’m definitely interested and want to give them a try. Here are some of my picks that I think would be fun to wear during the summer!

  1. Soludos Lace-Up Espadrille Sandal – The simple stripe design is just so adorable! It gives the shoes a nautical vibe and at the same time easy to pair with everything. I especially love the blue and white stripe one because that color combination screams vacation and just looks so relaxing.
  2. SARTO by Franco Sarto Ravenna Espadrille Platform Sandal – I’m not usually the one that goes for bold color on the feet, or platform in that matter. But this pair really stand out to me. The red will make any outfit pop!
  3. rag & bone Sayre II Espadrille Wedge Sandal – I’ve seen many iteration in this pair, my favorite is probably the light grey and the tan. I think they’re the perfect color for a summer monochrome look.
  4. TOMS Bella Espadrille Sandal – I personally like to avoid something complicated on my feet because I prefer something easy to put on/take off (call me lazy). But this pair would be so cute with dresses and shorts.
  5. Soludos Platform Sandal – Tassels are always on trend during summer. Though the risk you take when you follow a trend is that you might not be able to wear it the next season, but something subtle like this I think will work for as long as it’ll hold up.
  6. Topshop Kite Studded Wraparound Espadrille – Nude color shoes are great for the summer because it brightens up your overall look and doesn’t make your overall style look too bottom heavy. Though it’s tricky to find the perfect nude for your skin tone (very much like finding a nude lipstick, it’s different for everyone), I think it’s worth the trip to the store and giving a few different shades of nude a try.
  7. Andre Assous Samantha Sandal – Similar to the red pair from Franco Sarto, platform and espadrille just has a pull on me, I can’t look away when I see them. Depending on your skin tone, this pair will either look very neutral or pop for you, much like the red but less intense in my opinion. So if you want to add some colors to your outfit but don’t want to go too extreme, this color will be a good choice for you!

I don’t usually wear sneakers out other than when going to the gym because I thought they make my feet look like clown feet. But ever since I got my Nike Free 5.0 last year I just can’t seem to get enough of them. I love the clean and simple look it gives and since they’re black it’s also very easy to pair with your everyday outfit should you choose to change things up a bit. And my love for the Nike Free doesn’t stop at the looks, as they’re also extremely comfortable to wear and great for hiking, working out at the gym, running everyday errands, etc. So to me, they’re the perfect do it all shoes.

I saw this pair of floral print Free a while ago when this edition came out and loved it, but at the time I wasn’t very active or in need of a new pair of sneakers so I decided not to get them. After taking my black pair up a volcano and down to the beach, and all over the country with me, I thought maybe it’s time to look into getting another pair I can rotate them with. I looked at many different colors, some extremely bright teal or corals, but none really speak to me the way the floral print pair did. One day while browsing through Nordstrom’s website I saw them, there they are staring at me right in the face, the floral print Nike Free that I loved so much but didn’t purchase out of practicality and then sold out shortly after, available in my size (they’re still currently available but in limited sizes). I didn’t hesitate to pick them up, and now my black Nike Free 5.0 has a friend.

I’m still in the phase of figuring out how I can wear sneakers with my normal outfits without looking strange, but experiencing is half the fun in finding your own style right? If worst comes to worst, I’ll just always look really stylish at the gym, haha.

Little black boots

I’ve always been a brown boots girl, even though I’ve owned a few pairs of black boots before, they always seem to be neglected, live quietly at the corner of my closet for a few months and then to the donation pile. But recently I’ve been falling for everything black, particularly all black booties – black leather, black heels, black zippers, the whole nine yard.

My affection for black boots started with the Acne Studio Jensen Booties a few months back when I saw them on multiple blogs, they’re a pair of classic looking black pointed boots with low heel that looks super easy to walk in, sound right up my alley. But, I just couldn’t justify spending $500+ on a pair of boots at this stage of my life (or ever). When I found the ASOS Right About Now Western Pointed Chelsea Ankle Boots, I knew they would be a great, affordable dupe for me to try and see if I’ll actually like them on me. Upon receiving them and trying them on, I have to say I love them even more than I originally thought I would! They’re extremely comfortable and are so easy to slip on, the leather like material has a beautiful grain look which is what I wanted when looking at the Jensen (the Jensen comes in smooth, grain and suede I believe, but I think the grain looks the best and will also age the best). They’re truly a beautiful pair of boots and at such an amazing price point too! I’ve been looking for a pair of slip on boots to replace my brown Nine West ones for over a year, and I think I found them.

The second pair that’s been added to my collection was actually an unplanned purchase. I came across a pair of Madewell Ames Boots one day while browsing on Poshmark, at first I was just interested in them because of the amazing price tag (the “amazing sale you just can’t pass on” type buying urge), but after doing a little research and looking up some more photos of how they look on, I find myself constantly thinking about them. I actually waited a week or so – risking it being sold in the mean time, before purchasing them because I wasn’t 100% sure about the condition of the boots and the sizing, but I’m so glad I took the risk and got them! Even though there are some slight creasing you can see, it’s really not noticeable when you’re wearing them, and the size is actually perfect for my feet with socks on. I took them with me when I went down to Atlanta for a wedding, and they’re so comfortable and versatile that they ended up being the only shoes I wore all weekend other than the heels for the actual wedding. They’re not only great for elevating your outfit when you just want to wear a simple jeans and t-shirt combo, but also nice enough to pair with a more formal look. I wore them with my rehearsal dinner dress (ASOS Africa Lace Maxi Dress) and I love the look they add to the whole outfit, I even walked the Atlanta Beltline with them on afterwards and it didn’t cause any pain! They’re honestly the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten on Poshmark and I cannot be happier. (As a side note, I actually looked at the Ames boots last year in brown, but ended up going with another pair of brown boots. Who knew I would end up getting them a year later anyway!)

I love these 2 pairs so much that I’m seriously considering getting backups for them just in case, haha. I think they’ll be my go to for this F/W, but I also want to find another pair that are shorter, more ankle height to add to the mix. I loved the look of the Dolce Vita Jaeger Booties but the material didn’t exactly fit what I was looking for, so if you have a pair of black ankle boots you love or have seen some great ones online, please share with me!

On my mind lately #7

I have to admit, I’m pretty boring when it comes to shoes.  I just want them to be comfortable and easy to get on and off, the rest I like to keep them simple.  But recently I’ve been looking through Free People, maybe because it’s festival season, or maybe because I’m just feeling a little funky and adventurous lately, I don’t know, but I kinda like it.  I might not be brave enough to actually wear some of these, but hey, they sure are fun to look at!

  1. Free People Rendering Crochet Clog
I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of clogs, quite honestly I thought they were weird looking and too chunky.  But when I saw this pair I was extremely attracted to it!  I love the mix of perforated and solid leather and think it’s beautiful, and the platform look actually doesn’t bother me as much (seeing all the pictures of people wearing them on their website).  I am also surprised by how much I like the black pair as I never really cared for the black with brown/wood heel mix, but on this pair I think it works so well together as the wood part makes the shoes look not as heavy compare to if it’s all black.  My main concerns with these are that they look a little difficult to get on (read: no zippers, extra time to take on and off) and I won’t be brave enough to wear them to work as people at my work dress pretty conservatively… But they’re definitely on my wishlist!
  2. Free People Sunchaser Shoeboot
THESE!  Now these are a pair that I can see myself wearing everywhere, I’m completely in love with these and have been eyeing them for a long time now.  What’s stopping me from buying other then the somewhat hefty price tag is the fact that the reviews for them are not great, a lot of people are saying they’re not comfortable which is very unfortunate.  I’m still keeping these in my wishlist as one day maybe I’ll get them to try for myself, but for now they’re on hold.
  3. Birkenstock Pisa
I’m eyeing the Arizona because I want a pair of comfortable sandals for the summer, but these are also adorable and very unique!  I’ve never owned a pair of Birks before so I think I will go for the classic Arizona as my first pair, and if I like them enough maybe I’ll get a funky pair in the future!
  4. Freebird by Steven Eagle Heel Boot
Honestly I don’t really get the point of peep toe boots… When you wear boots you want them to be warm, when you want open toe shoes its because you want to keep your feet cool and able to breath in the warmer temperature, so why do peep toe boots?  Fashion before practicality I guess.  I do think these are interesting and fun, the color is very different than what I usually go for but I think they’ll be perfect for spring or fall.
  5. Jeffrey Campbell Minimal Lace Up Heel
I love the color of these shoes!  They’re gorgeous and fun but at the same time you can still wear them with different colors/outfits.  I usually go for brown or black shoes because they match everything and will never go out of style, but for these I think the berry is my favorite of them all!  I think the berry is dark and rich enough that, like navy can go with a lot of things and can be a great addition for any wardrobe.  I also love the lace and the openness of the shoe, great for showing off some skin when you’re wearing pants/jeans, and will help elongate your legs when wearing shorts/skirts.

The art of letting go

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Letting go is never easy, whether its physically or emotionally.  To me, getting rid of clothes I no longer wear is both a physical and emotional challenge.  The physical challenge is actually putting in the effort to sort through the items and separate them in to the “absolutely don’t need”, “maybe” and “keep” pile, and the emotional part is actually letting them go – either donating or selling.

I have set aside the must have items for my capsule wardrobe challenge for the past 2 seasons so I have a pretty good idea of what items I wear and what I really don’t need, but I still have them hanging around because I just haven’t had time and was not ready to let the items I no longer need go.  So recently I decided it’s time to put my foot down and clean out all the stuff, for real.

I started using Poshmark as many of you may have already know, not only do I use it to shop for great deals, I also sell some of my clothes, shoes and accessories that are still in great shape on there (you can visit my closet here).  I find that actually listing the items up online and see them all really helps me realize how many items I don’t need, and instead of just having a pile sitting in my room running the risk of me regretting putting them in the donation pile, listing them feels more firm and concrete.  To me, once it’s listed there’s no going back.  Well, you can always delete the listing, but you know what I mean.

So far I’ve cleaned out 2 drawers of stuff for donation and sell, and this is after me already gone through a purge when I moved up from Atlanta last April.  This definitely helps put things into perspective, and I hope this will also help me not buy things I don’t need.

Please don’t judge the title of this post, I’m just really really excited because fall is finally here!  To me fall is the best season to dress for, lots of layering, cozy knits, vests, scarfs and booties.  I especially love wearing booties because I find them very comfortable and easy to walk in, and they are the perfect addition to any outfit.

I’ve come to the realization that I am a brown booties girl, whenever I need to pick out an outfit quick or while I’m still half awake, brown booties are always the ones I reach for.  Not that I don’t like my black ones, but for some reason brown just fits better with my wardrobe.  I’ve had my 2 stable for more than 5 years, I pretty much wear them all year long and they’re slowly disintegrating, literally.  I love them to pieces but I think it’s time to start looking for replacements, and comes these wonderful ankle booties from Loft!

I saw them last month when Loft paired them with their jeans ad and I’ve been waiting for them to be available for purchase.  I was informed that they would be available in September, so when September finally came around and these became available online I ordered them immediately.  After what seems like forever 2 weeks of waiting for my shipping confirmation email and stalking my UPS delivery guy, they’re finally here!  They are even more beautiful in person, and are extremely comfortable.  The heels are the perfect height for me, tall enough to give me some height but short enough that I can walk in them all day long comfortably.  I can’t wait to wear them all fall year long!

P1010809 week ago one of my go to Steve Madden sandals got chewed up by an adorable puppy, I was slightly sad but at the same time I’ve pretty much worn that pair of sandals to the ground, so it was time to move on.  I had my heart set on a pair of white sandals since it’s summer and I wanted something for the season, but I couldn’t find any flat sandals that I like or are in my size.

While I was on Nordstrom browsing their anniversary sale I stumble upon these Topshop Rochelle Sandal in white, they’re not my typical go to nor are they flat, but they look interesting and comfy enough that I clicked on it.  I reallyyy wanted to get a pair of white sandals… but when I saw the black ones I was so attracted to them I ended up getting them instead.  The matte and shiny black straps intertwining are just so interesting and gorgeous, they give the sandals an extra dimension and an edge that the white ones don’t have.  They’re so different from anything I have and I’m really glad I broke out of my comfort zone to explore different shoe styles.  I’m so happy I got them and cannot wait to wear them out!
