Keep on blushing

During my last visit to NYC, I was able to stop by the glossier show room and test out their new Cloud Paint in person. First of all, I love their show room! The space is small but you can easily walk around and browse/try all products, and everything is so visually pleasing.

I went in with one goal in mind and that is to test out all the shades for Cloud Paint and figure out which 2 I want (they’re running a 2 for $30 deal!). I knew I wanted Dusk as an easy, neutral blush but couldn’t decide between Haze and Puff, after playing around with all of them I ended up picking up Haze, a darker berry tone blush over Puff which is a pretty baby pink because the darker tone works so well with my complexion. I loved how easy it was to use them, the finish is beautiful and so natural, literally, like you’re naturally blushing. It was love at first dab. But one note on them is that a little goes a longggg way, but no worries if you used a little too much, they’re so easy to blend, even with Haze.

Ever since I got my hands on them I’ve forgo my powder blushes. I no longer need to have a finished base to apply blush, as I use Cloud Paint straight on a bare face that’s freshly cleansed and moisturized face. It gives me a beautiful effortless flush in the matter of seconds, no prep work required, and on top of that the longevity is amazing, at the end of the work day I can still clearly see the blush on my cheeks. Cloud Paint is really every girl’s shortcut to achieve rosy cheeks! I definitely recommend you give them a try!

Keep on blushing

Thanks to the recent Sephora VIB sale, I was able to purchase some items I’ve been wanting to try for a while. Today’s look is made up with some tried and true favorites and a couple newcomers I want to point out that’re making their way to my everyday rotation!

I have been an Anastasia brow product fan since I started purchasing makeup for myself – first there was the Brow Wiz, then come the Brow Definer – I’m a big fan of both and for the longest time I’ve been resisting to try new brow products, because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Well, kind of. During the sale I decided to give the Benefit Goof Proof Brown Pencil a try because there have been a lot of hype about it (and the Benefit Brow products in general) circulating the internet. And I have to say, I’m very impressed by it and have been reaching for it almost every day. I love that it’s so easy to apply and the packaging makes it very easy to handle. I find the formula very creamy, and dare I say I think it might be even cremier than the Anastaisa range, though you have to be careful because it’s very pigmented and you can easily overdo it if you’re not paying attention.

For the longest time I debated whether or not I want to get the Modern Renaissance Palette. The color in this palette is very untraditional and not something I would have picked out for myself normally, but with all the red hue makeup look popping up everywhere, I was encouraged by the internet to trying these colors out. The formula is so easy to blend, and the reds are surprisingly easy to work with even for an everyday work look. I’m pretty comfortable with even the bolder warm shades (Red Ocher, Realgar), but I wanted to be more adventurious with my makeup so I’ve been incorporating more of the cooler shades (Venetian Red, Love Letter) in this palette into my everyday look and am loving it. This palette is so easy to use even though the color in the pan looks a little scary, I would definitely recommend anyone that’s still on the fence about purchasing to try it out!

The last new-in item I want to mention is the Viseart Blush Palette. Viseart products are known for their quality as they’re originally made for pro artists to use, and though the package isn’t as fancy and glamourious as some of the other brands on the market, I promist they’re definitely worth while. Spending this much money on an item is usually a hard pill to swallow, regardless of your budget, but as many reviews have mentioned the price per oz/g is actually pretty compareable, if not cheaper than many of the other mid range products out ther (it’s actually about $3.3 a gram compare to a Too Faced blush that’s about $4.3 a gram and a Benefit Blush that’s $5.8 a gram). There are 3 different palette combination to chose from so there’s something for everyone, if you’re in the market for some beautiful, pigmented blush, you should definitely try these out.

Sephora Holiday Shopping Event Haul 2016 – The Makeup

November to me officially marks the beginning of the holiday season. All the holiday commercials are rolling out, decorations around the stores and shopping malls are going up, and the holiday gift sets of course are always something I’m excited to see.

For this haul I’m dividing up the makup and skin/bath and body portion so hopefully the post is not too wordy. Though I just received these products not that long ago so it will be hard to give a full review, I want to run through the list and my first impression of them!

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette
I’m extremely happy that I decided to get this palette! The colors are very different than what I usually wear but they’re all very wearable. I’m able to create looks that are very neutral but also can put out some super dramatic looks, which I lack in my collection. The formula is amazing and I really enjoy playing around with it so far.
  2. Viseart Blush Palette in Plum/Bronze
Pretty much all my blushes are very summer-y, so when I saw the  colors in this palette I couldn’t wait to try it out. I think the colors are perfect for the fall and winter, and the bronze will be great for the days you just want a little more definition on your face but don’t want to contour. But do keep in mind that they’re extremely pigmented, so use a very light hand when applying (especially the blush).
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario (an honorable mention)
I purchased this before the sale, but want to mention this in case you see one in store. This palette is one of the most gorgeous palette I’ve seen. Yes it’s another neutral palette, but I just couldn’t resist. The colors are so beautiful and the formula is so buttery, though I would be careful with the fallout. If you happen to come across this palette, BUY IT! It’s truly amazing.
  4. Tom Ford Ultra-Rich Lip Color in Revolve Around Me
This is my first ever Tom Ford lipstick! I’ve been wanting to try one but they don’t carry Tom Ford in the Nordstrom near me and I simply can’t justify buying a $53 lipstick… So when I saw Sephora started carrying some of their makeup items, I knew this would be my chance to try. The packaging is beautiful as you would expect, and I’m a little afraid to try the lipstick because I feel like I’m going to ruin the embossed logo, haha. I really do love the color from looking at it in the bullet tho, and can’t wait to try it out.
  5. Besame Cosmetics Classic Color Lipstick in Red Velvet
Red lips is something I love when I see it on others but never had the courage to try. When I discover this brand, I was very intrigued by their “classic reds” statement and the interesting shape of their lipstick. I got the Red Velvet which is slightly deeper red and not as orange or bright as a true red, but I think it suites my skin tone better.
  6. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Uptight
Another neutral lipstick, because a girl simply can’t have enough neutrals. I tried this color in store a while back and have been waiting for the sale to get it. I went with Uptight which is a Comfort Matte formula, a medium neutral color that is warm but not too brown. Sometimes I find a cool tone neutral can make me look a little dead so after many trial and error, I think I finally know what shades suites me best when it comes to neutral lipsticks.
  7. Buxom Lash Waterproof Mascara
Mascara is not something I get very excited about. I can never really tell the difference other than if it smudges on me or not. My eyelashes are not that impressive so even with a volumizing  mascara, you can’t really tell the difference from regular mascara. I was recommended this by my coworker so I thought why not? I plan on giving it a few try to see if it makes me feel “wow”.

Sephora Holiday Shopping Event 2016

I’ve been on a beauty product hiatus lately, not being very interested in new beauty products, and not very motivated to try new things. But when the Sephora Holiday Shopping Event is right around the corner, it kind of force me to plan and think about the items I need to restock, and also list out some things I would like to try. Every year beauty lovers all over look forward to this event, because it’s simply an amazing deal and the perfect time for you to stock up on basics or try out luxury items at a great discount! This year is no different, and I’ve manage to pull myself back together and create a list of items I’m extremely interested in getting my hands on during the sale! Here are some of the items I’m eyeing, what are you planning on getting?

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette
I’ve been eyeing this palette since it was released, the red tone in this palette is so different from anything I have. The colors are kind of intimidating, but after seeing a lot of tutorials online, they look so versatile! It is definitely one of those outside of my comfort zone product that I’m nervous but excited to try.
  2. Ouai Shampoo and Conditioner
Ouai has been one of the most talked about hair product this year, the baby of the hair genius Jen Atkin pretty much markets itself. I’m particular interested in the CLEAN shampoo to help tame the oily mess that’s on my head.
  3. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Surreal Light
Okay, so I don’t need anymore face palette… But just look at this packaging! I’ve never tried any of the Hourglass powders so this palette seems like a great way to try them out!
  4. Tom Ford Ultra-Rich Lip Color
I think this one is pretty self explanatory here. Owning a Tom Ford lipstick is every beauty lover’s dream, but the hefty $50 + price tag is not a easy pill to swallow. The Sephora sale is a great chance to get your hands on one at a discounted price since there are no brand restriction during this sale. If you’ve been wanting to get a Tom Ford lipstick but haven’t been able to justify it, this is your chance!
  5. Giorgio Armani Beauty Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick
Another high end lip product that normally would be hard to justify buying… I personally have not tried this product yet but am definitely interested to see what all the hype is about.
  6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer
One of the things I always have to purchase (multiple of) during the sale is my brow pencil. When Anastasia Beverly Hills came out with the Brow Definer earlier this year, I was unsure about it because I love the Brow Wiz so much I didn’t know how I would feel about the new shape of the Brow Definer. Turns out, it’s just as amazing (if not more amazing) than the Brow Wiz. I love the fact that I can be more careless with this one and not have to worry about the “lines” being too obvious.
  7. Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil Easy Shape & Fill
Speaking of brow products, one simply can’t ignore the huge range of brow products Benefit launched this year. Everything you could ever want for your brows, they’ve got it. I’m a fairly boring person when it comes to brows, I need my brow pencil, and my Glossier Boy Brow. So even though I already have a brand I like, I’m always open to trying out other ones on the market!
  8. Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1
Dry shampoo is something I haven’t really been able to get on with. I just don’t seem to find them effective and it usually just makes me feel more greasy. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews of this one tho, so I’m tempted to give it a try.
  9. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
One of my favorite things to play around with makeup wise is eyeshadow, and one simply can’t go without a good primer. I’ve been loyal to the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer since the very beginning, because I find it very effective and doesn’t give me a silicon-y feeling when applied.
  10. Urban Decay Naked3
Another out of the ordinary color palette for me. But since I’ve pretty much got my neutral palette covered, I thought it’s time to add in some fun colors. I’ve played around with this palette before at my friend’s place, and really like the look of the pinks on me which is unusual. Though I’m really interested in the palette, I have yet to be able to pull the trigger to purchase it, but I think the 20% off might just be the push I need to get it!
  11. Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation
I’m forever trying to find a good nude lipstick. I really like the coverage on this one and the color selection seems right up my alley.
  12. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
An everyday stable in my makeup routine. Always good to have a few in stock in case you run out!
  13. Stella Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
I still can’t decide if I like this one or the Kat Von D one more. I think they each have their time and place, so I like to have one of each in my collection so I can have my options depending on my mood that day.
  14. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer
A good face moisturizer is hard to come by. I’ve tried a few brands that are ok, but I’m not wow by. The only one that I absolutely love is the Sisley one my mom gave me, but that’s simply too expensive for me to repurchase whenever I run out… So I’m still on the lookout for a good alternative for the day I run out of my Sisley moisturizer.
  15. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
Another product that peaked my interest because of the name. The fact that it’s supposed to help firm up your skin just makes it even more intriguing.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette

This collaboration is all the rage lately in the beauty world. I personally really enjoy Jaclyn Hill’s videos and snaps, and was extremely interested when I saw this palette launched back in May. However, I didn’t purchase it back then because I didn’t use a lot of highlight in my day to day routine back then (speaking like that was so long ago) and wasn’t sure if I’ll really get a lot of use out of this. But after seeing everyone talking about it, I started to do more and more highlighting with the products I already have, including one from Becca, and I fell in love with the idea of having glowy, dewy skin especially for summer. So when this palette relaunched on June 16th, I immediately placed an order.

You may have read lots of other reviews already, but I want to share a little of my own opinion as well! First of all I really love the packaging, it is beautifully made and the mirror is amazing! Though I’m a little worried about the white/glossy material attracting fingerprints, scratches and other makeup products… In this palette, I was most excited about the highlighters because I think they are so fun to play with, and Champagne Pop and Prosecco Pop are both beautiful but very different. On me Champagne Pop is not too pink, but more like a pearl with a hint of pink/peach which is gorgeous. Prosecco Pop is the perfect gold for my more tanned skin tone in the summer, although it could be a little intense. My favorite way to use them is what I did in the picture above, where I mixed the 2 together. As mentioned the intensity of Prosecco Pop, you can see some gold shinning through!

I was a little afraid of the blushes because all the reviews say they’re very pigmented and one of the colors (Pamplemousse) looks SUPER bright in the pan, which is very unlike any other color I usually use. After playing around with them for a while I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to approach them is to just use a fluffy blush and with a light hand, and they will look amazing on the skin. My favorite is probably Amaretto because it’s a more neutral color that’s very easy to wear, but when I want something that pops I like to mix Pamplemousse and Rose Spritz to give my cheeks some extra glow. Rose Spritz is seriously gorgeous and is perfect for giving your overall look an extra oomph.

Overall I really enjoy playing around with this palette, but it’ll probably take me forever to hit pan because there’s just SO MUCH product in this palette. And on a separate note, I want to say that I’m not a professional make up artist and I’m not very picky or sensitive when it comes to formulas. I know there are a lot of rumors/drama going on about this collaboration, but I personally don’t have any problem with it. So if you’re interested in the colors and adding fun highlights to your summer makeup, I’d say give this a try! It’s a great value and the color payoff is amazing.

I love a good light weight base for my everyday face (hi Glossier Skin Tint!), but when it comes to days where I want a little more coverage, I opt for the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I love the fact that this foundation is very easy to wear, but at the same time it gives enough coverage/hold that I don’t turn into an oily mess in the hot summer afternoon.

And thanks to the nice weather we have lately, I’ve also been spending a lot more time outside and my skin is now nicely tanned, which means I get to break out some of the items that I wasn’t able to comfortably use in the winter due to the colors/tones (looking at you Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette). So today’s line up is a very simple bronzed look perfect for summer, with a nice primer and foundation to keep the oil under control, and a makeup setting spray that gives your makeup lasting power!

Recently I’ve been putting a lot more effort in the morning to get ready for work. At first it was because I really wanted to try out all the new products I got during the Sephora sale, but it kind of became a habit to apply a full face (the term is used loosely here) of make up.

For today’s line up there are some relatively new items and some oldies but goodies. I’m loving them for a bronzed natural look that feels super light weight on the skin, and I just honestly can’t say enough good things about the Glossier products for those of you who loves a very natural look. Can’t. Stop. Using.

Sephora love note haul 2016

I waited to write this post because I want to be able to give everything a try before writing my review. Though the Love Note sale is behind us, I hope this will still help you with your future purchases! Now lets go over the (long) list of things I got from the Love Note Sale!

  1. Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette – I have been using this palette none stop ever since it arrived in the mail. Although I have only tried a handful of contour items, I really love the creaminess, blend-ability and the longevity of the formula. I never thought having a multiple shades in a contour palette is important, but after realizing how drastic my skin tone changes season to season, I find the variety of shades offer so many options and allows me to use the palette year round.
  2. Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Collection Palette – This peachy beauty is one of a kind, when I saw this I thought it would be the perfect start to help me stray away from only using neutral palettes. The peachy scent is also something worth noting, I don’t own any of the chocolate palette, so I can’t speak to the comparison between the two scents, but I must say that I really enjoy the whiff of peach every time I open this palette. I have already done a review of the palette last week in time for the supposedly Sephora in store release date in case anyone is interested in getting one. Give it a read if you want to know more about it!
  3. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Honeycomb – I haven’t purchased a true “nude” lipstick in the longest time, probably because of the traumatizing experience of using a lipstick way too nude for me and then thought maybe nude is not my thing… But after seeing a lot of tutorials on YouTube with people using beautiful nude colors, I thought maybe I should give it another shot. When I tried this color on in store I immediately fell in love! It’s a beautiful nude with a little brown and honey that is a true nude on me. My go to has been those “dusty mauve” when I want to achieve a MLBB neutral lip, but I’m really loving this color and think it’ll be a good change of pace for me.
  4. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray – Setting makeup is definitely a very important step in your makeup routing, but I’m the worst offender when it comes to doing so because usually by that time I’m either so tired of putting powder on my face or am already running late to wherever I needed to go. I like the simple step of just spraying it on your face instead of powder, it feels very refreshing and helps wake my skin up. I’m not sure about the lasting power or if it really helped my makeup looking fresh because at the end of the day I feel like my face looks a little shiny… It might take a few tries for me to figure out if this works for me.
  5. Benefit Cheekathon Blush & Bronzer Palette – This was one of the last minute items I added to my basket. I originally had Hoola in there ready to go, as that’s one of the items I’ve been wanting to try since last year, but when I saw this palette with 5 full size product and only costs $28 more than the individual Hoola, I caved and got this instead. I really love Hoola as it’s a more neutral/cool tone bronzer which is very different from the very warm tone one in my Urban Decay Naked Flush Palette, and it’s also more pigmented and completely matte unlike my NARS Laguna (my current go to). I also like the range of blushes in this palette, covering a pale pink (Dandelion) that’s great for adding a little flush to your face, a coral (CORALista) that’s perfect for the summer days, a shimmer pink (Rockateur) that can also be used as a highlighter, and a mauve-ish tone that is almost brown enough to be bronzer (Dallas). I think this is a great deal especially if you don’t own any of the Benefit Box o’ Powder like me.
  6. Too Faced Melted Chocolate in Chocolate Honey and Chocolate Milkshake – As I mentioned previously, I’m on a nude kick lately! When I swatch these in store I love how creamy and pigmented it is. One of the problems I run into when applying nude color lip products is the pigmentation of my lips, as they’re naturally darker and if a formula is not pigmented enough, it will not be able to cover up my natural lip color and creating a not so pretty look, so I love how these feel like gloss but is super pigmented and doesn’t dry my lips out. It’s definitely not as long lasting as liquid lipsticks but I prefer to have a more comfortable formula over something that will make me uncomfortable.
  7. Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair 5 Piece Brush Set – Let me just say that, although I’m not a pink person I can’t resist saying “aww” when I saw this set. Of course the brush handle color is not the main reason I purchased this set, it’s definitely a nice plus. I’ve been looking to beef up my brush collection but have been on the fence about getting more individual brushes because they’re pretty pricey. This set comes with 4 eye brushes and 1 face brush and all are brushes I will use. There’s a powder brush that is perfect for bronzer application, a contour eye brush that is angled which is unlike anything I own and works wonders when applying shadow on the crease, an all over shadow brush to pack on colors on the lid, a blender brush to help with blending color on the crease, and a liner brush for creating detail lines around the under eye area and is the one thing I’m lacking in my collection. They are all super soft and also the fact that it’s cruelty free is a big plus in my opinion!

Oh so peachy

This Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Palette has been getting a lot of hype on the internet, but the main reason it caught my attention was because of the nod to the southern charm. As many of you may know, I lived in Georgia for 7 years during college (Go Jackets!) and my first job, which is actually the longest I’ve stayed in one state since I moved to the US for high school. I’m pretty much half a southern girl and Georgia has a very special place in my heart with many many good memories associated with it. So of course when I saw this palette I couldn’t resist the urge to add it to my collection.

Too Faced has made a palette that is based on peach, with enough neutrals so it can still be used on a daily basis. Although a lot of people complain that this palette is not “peachy” enough, I thought it was a perfect color palette interpretation of a peach. You get the obvious peachy shades, a green of the leaves, some browns for the stem and some warm purples for the darker hues you see when a peach is ripe. On top of the beautiful colors, the clever names are also something that cannot be overlooked. True to the southern roots “Bless Your Heart”, a nod to the peach state “Georgia”, and the delicious peachy drink “Bellini”, to name a few.

This is not a palette for everyone, as some of the colors can be a little intense and bold depending on your skin tone, but I definitely think this is a fun palette with enough neutral mixed in to be used everyday. If you’re in the market for something new with some fun colors to play around, I would definitely recommend you get your hands on this one before it’s gone! The Sephora website said this palette will be available in store today, but the listing for this palette has been removed so I would say call your local store first before making a trip over.

Oh so peachy

Glossier phase2 and more

As you can see, I finally gave in and placed an order for some Glossier products and I regret nothing. I’ve been looking for a lighter base for my face and a nice concealer that’s not too heavy, so when I saw Phase 2 came out I had to give it a try.

Per usual Glossier products came in their cute custom shipping box that’s always a pleasure to open. The Phase 2 set came in a beautiful white box that has magnetic closure, it is the standard high quality minimalist design you can expect Glossier. In my mind I already thought of a million ways to use it, now I just have to pick one.

There are 3 items included in the Phase 2 box, two new and one everyone is all too familiar with. I don’t think I need to say much about the Boy Brow, as all the reviews out there have been nothing but good. I have it in brown already, but was glad to see them restock the black (finally) which was the color I wanted originally but have been out of stock for months!

Of the whole Phase 2 set, I was most excited about the Stretch Concealer because I haven’t found one that I love yet. I’ve been having issues with my concealer looking cake-y so I’m so glad Glossier came out with a concealer! The Glossier Stretch Concealer to me is the perfect combination of coverage and dewy-ness, it is easy to apply and looks so natural on the skin.

The one product I didn’t expect to like as much as I do is Generation G, a matte (but sheer) lipstick with incredible consistency. I got the color Cake which looks like a beautiful taupe-y nude in the tube, it is just tinted enough to show up on my lips, and it works like a color corrector for my lip color, giving my lips a healthy glow with just one layer of application. Even though it’s a matte lip tint, it’s not drying at all and almost feels like a balm when applying. Now I wish I got all the other shades as well so I can try them out!

On top of getting the Phase 2 set, I also got the Perfecting Skin Tint to help give my face a little more glow. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been paying more attention to makeup tutorials and noticing how big of a difference a nice light weight base can make even if you have great skin, or my skin is simply getting to the point that it really needs some extra oomph, but I’ve been noticing my skin has been looking a little lackluster lately and I desperately want to get my glow back. The Perfect Skin Tint is exactly what I needed – a light weight base that doesn’t overwhelm your skin but gives it a little hint of color to make everything look balanced.
