The perfect denim

The search for the perfect denim seems like a never ending task for every girl. I’m not big on boyfriend or flare because I’m so short and they just don’t look as nice on me unless I’m wearing heels (which rarely happens), so my closet consists of lots of skinnies and that’s usually the only fit I look at when I shop for denim. I’ve tried many brands of skinny jeans, but none fit me like the Madewell High Riser. They’re so comfortable to wear and the material is a good weight unlike a lot of the other ones out there that feels more like legging jeans instead of real denim. I love the “legs for days” rise especially for my short legs, the way they fit make my proportion look better but at the same time not too extreme to the point where it looks a little too forced.

I’ve been on the hunt for more shades of Madewell High Riser Skinny since this last post, so far I’ve acquired 2 more, and am almost tempted to get another black pair as a back up because I love them so much!

Have you tried the Madewell High Riser yet?

I’ve been loving some of the items I got earlier this year in preparation for fall and some new bits I’ve acquired recently. Capsule wardrobe challenge is still happening, but I’m not done prepping my wardrobe yet, there are still a few items that need to be added… But you can see my recently obsession with my black booties from ASOS and black jeans from Madewell. I especially love the fit of the Madewell jeans, if you haven’t already you should definitely give them a try!

Pretty little things

I’m definitely having a moment for Madewell jewelry. Though I find them beautiful, I’ve never tried out their jewelry collection until recently because I’m pretty plain when it comes to wearing them. But after seeing over and over again all the beautiful pieces Madewell puts out, and being completely in love with the look and quality of the earrings I got from there, I thought I should give something else from Madewell a try.

I love the look of rings on hands because they just make everything look more elegant. Rings are also my prefer accessory because it’s something I can comfortably wear daily without it being caught in my hair, scarf, sleeves. I picked up 3 (they were on sale, I couldn’t resist) rings from Madewell last week, and I have to say I’m even more impressed with their jewelry now! They’re so beautifully made and does not give you the green stain on your hand, I love the variety they offer and have been wearing the 3 I got nonstop since I got them. I’m the type of person that likes having staple pieces especially when it comes to jewelry, but these rings make me wish I have more of them so I can play mix and match everyday.

Dainty jewelry

I’m having a moment with Madewell‘s jewelry range right now and I especially love all the minimalist offerings. I recently got my hands on these tiny earrings, and I just can’t stop looking at them. I have 5 ear piercings so this pack was perfect for me, I love how they’re all different but since they’re so so tiny they don’t fight with each other when wearing them. There are so many more options ranging from necklaces, bracelets and rings on Madewell, it makes me wish I was more proactive about wearing different jewelry everyday, but for now these 5 and the necklace given to me from my parents will be my staple for the foreseeable future.

I am however in search of some good quality rings (no fading, no color transferring, no bending, etc) to add to my collection as it’s something I really enjoy wearing! So if you have a favorite place in mind, let me know as I’m in need of some suggestions!

Doing a week in outfits in the winter is no easy task since I’m always super bundled up, rotating my 4 go to coats.  Instead of showing y’all the same coats over and over again, I figured I would start doing “what’s under my coat” a week in outfits post!  Yes it took me almost an entire winter to figure this out… But better late than never, right?

New jeans on the block

I’m always on the lookout for a good pair of jeans, mainly because as a petite girl it’s hard to find a pair that fits you well.  I love my Loft jeans that I purchased this summer but they’re all ankle length and don’t seem to be thick enough for the winter, so the search for a pair(s) of thicker denim started.

I’ve been eyeing some mid to high waisted jeans for a while, they seem pretty on trend and even though I’ve never had a pair, I’ve always liked the fact that it sits higher (don’t need to worry about constantly making sure it’s pulled up) and makes your legs longer which is a major plus for petite girls like me.  I saw this pair of Rivet and Thread Extra High Skinny Jeans on Madewell and fell in love with the wash/style, I knew it was a little higher than a normal high waisted jeans, but still wanted to try and see how I like the fit so I ordered a pair when it was on sale during Christmas.  At first it felt really weird to wear such high waisted jeans and I wasn’t sure about the look because I’m not used to it, but I kept it anyway because it was so comfortable!

After having a pretty good experience with this pair of jeans from Madewell, I went on eBay to look and see if there are any available for cheaper than retail so I can try them out without breaking the bank.  I stumble upon this pair of High Riser Skinny Skinny in Atlantic for less than $30 (currently selling for $125 on Madewell.com still), once I  tried it on I knew this is going to be my new go-to fit!  I love how it sits on the waist – high but not too high, it’s also extremely comfortable even when sitting down for an extended period of time, which is very important to me because I wear jeans to work quite often.  I was very lucky to find a pair that fits me perfectly on the first try, especially on a site like eBay where return sometimes is not an option.  I ended up finding another pair of black ones a week ago also for less than $30, I’d say I’m one lucky girl.

Now that I have 3 pairs of jeans in my go to shades (dark denim and black), I’d say my search for denim is over… for now!

A week in outfits #10

It’s been a while since I’ve done an “A week in outfits” post, sorry guys!  I’ve been savoring the extra 10 min of sleep every morning instead of waking up early to take photos…  Anyway, I’m finally posting my first outfit post for the winter!  A lot of the items were thrifted from eBay/Poshmark or bought from abroad, so I’ll try to do my best to find similar pieces and link them.  Hope y’all enjoy!

Holiday gift guide

With the holiday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday around the corner, I’m sure most of you are already prepping your shopping list for the holiday.  I know personally I like browsing way in advance and pick out what I want to get before all the holiday sales start, so as soon as the promotion deals hit the stores I can snatch the items I want right away without hesitation (quick, ruthless, and precise).

For those of you that are still looking for ideas and inspiration on what to get, here is a gift guide/wish list I’ve made with things I think would be great to get for others but also great to add to your own wish list!

gift guide

  1. NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette – Perfect for any makeup lover or beginner in your life.  This beautifully packaged palette contains 3 blush, 1 highlight and 1 bronzer.  Great quality and great bank for your buck, a one stop shop for a perfect cheek look for the holiday!
  2. Jo Malone Fragrance – Fragrance is a very personal item to purchase for someone, as everyone has a different taste when it comes to scent.  If you’re afraid the scent you picked out might not be the perfect fit for him/her (since the body chemistry is different for every person and the fragrance reacts to your chemistry differently), you can always ask for some samples and have them test it out first (though it won’t be a surprise anymore).
  3. Diptyque Candle – Another one of my favorites and is perfect for everyone and anyone.  Diptyque candles are gorgeous and they have a variety of scent you can pick from, if you can’t decide which one will fit best for them you can always pick up the minis for your loved ones.  The empty candle holder also can serve as a brush holder or mini vase for flowers!
  4. Fresh Sugar Cravings Kissing Trio – Cold weather usually means heater and chapped lips, pick up a set of these Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment as a gift set or stocking stuffers, you know they will thank you later.
  5. An oversize, super comfortable cardigan (like this one from Lou & Grey or this one from Madewell) – In the winter time what else is better than sitting by the fireplace drinking hot cocoa in your most comfortable cardigan?  A nice oversize cardigan is not only a great lounge piece but can also be a very stylish layer to add to their everyday outfit.
  6. Crabtree & Evelyn hand cream – Again with the heat and dryness everyone has to endure in the winter time, a nice hand cream can cure it all.  Like the lip treatment, these babies help keep your hands soft and smelling amazing.
  7. Buffalo check scarf – Another cozy item on the list, a nice scarf can make an outfit.  Having a scarf that  can both acts as a statement piece or a cozy layer is a must in the winter time.  There are so many options out there but my favorites are the buffalo check ones because they reminds me of the cabin and vacation.

On my mind lately #5

For me boots are year round staples!  I love wearing them for any occasion because they’re so comfortable, I love them so much I prefer them over heeled sandals and try to wear them as much as possible in the summer time.

Though I love boots always, it’s hard to justify buying boots till fall and winter, I already purchased 2 pairs from Loft (you can read about them herebut of course one can’t simply have enough boots in the shoe closet.  I tend to lean towards booties because they’re easier to put on (and take off) and since I’m in the office for the majority of the day I don’t really want to sit in knee high boots all day and overheat my legs.  I do love a good pair of knee high every now and then but I just don’t find myself wearing them that often anymore.

I’m being very patient and as selective as I can when it comes to picking out new items now because of the capsule wardrobe challenge, but I’m seriously loving all of these, so you just might see one or two of them in my next capsule wardrobe!
