A week in outfits #12

It’s been a while since I did my last outfit posts, mainly because I haven’t been very inspired by my outfits plus I was in the middle of moving and there was just nowhere for me to take decent pictures… But I’m finally back with a new outfit post! This post has a mix of work outfits that I’ve been loving recently, an outfit I wore to my friend’s bachelorette cocktail party and a Firefly Music Festival outfit. Hope you enjoy!

The wish list: Lou & Grey Spring 2015

Every time Lou & Grey comes out with their new items for each season, I can’t help but make mental notes of which ones I wish I had in my wardrobe (or which ones I would like to add… hint hint).  There are a lot of color options for this season but also a lot of great basics as well.  See what I’ve picked out for my wish list this spring!

lou and grey wishlist 15 spring

  1. Lou & Grey Shadowstripe Tunic
A tank top with a higher neckline gives it a less casual look.  This will be perfect as a piece that can transition from work to play with a simple action of taking your cardigan off or switching into jeans or a skirt.
  2. Lou & Grey Windowpane Trim Tee
I’m in love with this tee.  I’ve been wanting to add a windowpane pattern shirt to my wardrobe, but every time I see one I felt the pattern was too busy and not as basic as I would like it to be.  When I saw this shirt, I knew this would be the perfect one!  I love the balance of pattern and solid color, and the mesh on the shoulder also adds a little sexiness to it.
  3. Lou & Grey Anorak Vest
Vests are a great layering piece.  I have my go to J.Crew vest for the winter, and I think this would act as a perfect counter part for spring to add a little dimension to your outfits.
  4. Lou & Grey Denim Jacket
This season it’s all about denim jacket.  It is to spring as a leather jacket is to fall and winter.  I’m a little hesitant on getting one as I don’t really know how practical it is for office wear, but it is definitely something I’m interested in exploring.
  5. Lou & Grey Piqueplay Tee
I love the not so basic basics from Lou & Grey.  This shirt is very straight forward and simple but at the same time it is not your typical plain shirt.  It has a subtle front panel that is made of a different material of the body, giving it an interesting play on texture.
  6. Lou & Grey Spacedye Maxi Dress
Another higher neckline item.  I didn’t really like the look of this type of neckline when I was younger because I thought it felt restricting and is not as cool (temperature wise) when wearing, but now that I’m revisiting it I think it adds a more sophisticated look to the dress and will make it more appropriate to wear in different occasions.
  7. Lou & Grey Duo Tee
2 in 1 shirts were my favorite in middle school!  Remember the fake long sleeve under short sleeve shirt look?  I was very resisting to this type of shirts for a while because it reminds me of my… not so stylish days, but after seeing this particular one I’ve become more open to the idea as it looks so effortless but at the same time put together.  Another not so basic basic.
  8. Lou & Grey Duo Skirt
The counter part of the duo tee, I like the duo material on the skirt because the semi sheer material on the bottom makes it look sexy but not revealing.  The length of the skirt is also appropriate for work but the sheer will make it a good transitional piece for happy hour or going out.

Holiday gift guide

With the holiday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday around the corner, I’m sure most of you are already prepping your shopping list for the holiday.  I know personally I like browsing way in advance and pick out what I want to get before all the holiday sales start, so as soon as the promotion deals hit the stores I can snatch the items I want right away without hesitation (quick, ruthless, and precise).

For those of you that are still looking for ideas and inspiration on what to get, here is a gift guide/wish list I’ve made with things I think would be great to get for others but also great to add to your own wish list!

gift guide

  1. NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette – Perfect for any makeup lover or beginner in your life.  This beautifully packaged palette contains 3 blush, 1 highlight and 1 bronzer.  Great quality and great bank for your buck, a one stop shop for a perfect cheek look for the holiday!
  2. Jo Malone Fragrance – Fragrance is a very personal item to purchase for someone, as everyone has a different taste when it comes to scent.  If you’re afraid the scent you picked out might not be the perfect fit for him/her (since the body chemistry is different for every person and the fragrance reacts to your chemistry differently), you can always ask for some samples and have them test it out first (though it won’t be a surprise anymore).
  3. Diptyque Candle – Another one of my favorites and is perfect for everyone and anyone.  Diptyque candles are gorgeous and they have a variety of scent you can pick from, if you can’t decide which one will fit best for them you can always pick up the minis for your loved ones.  The empty candle holder also can serve as a brush holder or mini vase for flowers!
  4. Fresh Sugar Cravings Kissing Trio – Cold weather usually means heater and chapped lips, pick up a set of these Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment as a gift set or stocking stuffers, you know they will thank you later.
  5. An oversize, super comfortable cardigan (like this one from Lou & Grey or this one from Madewell) – In the winter time what else is better than sitting by the fireplace drinking hot cocoa in your most comfortable cardigan?  A nice oversize cardigan is not only a great lounge piece but can also be a very stylish layer to add to their everyday outfit.
  6. Crabtree & Evelyn hand cream – Again with the heat and dryness everyone has to endure in the winter time, a nice hand cream can cure it all.  Like the lip treatment, these babies help keep your hands soft and smelling amazing.
  7. Buffalo check scarf – Another cozy item on the list, a nice scarf can make an outfit.  Having a scarf that  can both acts as a statement piece or a cozy layer is a must in the winter time.  There are so many options out there but my favorites are the buffalo check ones because they reminds me of the cabin and vacation.

The wish list: Lou & Grey Fall 2014

fall wishlist

Fall has arrived which means more dark, rich jewel tone and more cold weather material are taking over.  Here I’ve gathered a few items that I love on Lou & Grey that might help you build your fall wardrobe! (from left to right, top to bottom)

Lou & Grey Utility Pants – A deep navy color that is just dark enough for the fall, but colorful enough to add some fun into your outfit.  The relax fit is not only comfortable, but also gives you the cool, casual chick look.

Lou & Grey Peppered Silky Sweatshirt – The picture doesn’t do it justice, I saw (and touched) this shirt in person, the silky material is very nice and makes it an item that can be dressed up for work, but it is also comfortable enough to be literally, a sweatshirt.

Lou & Grey Ottoman Stripe Dress – I’m loving all the deep colors Lou and Grey is adding in their collection.  This dress is simple, straight forward like your typical stripe dress, but in a beautiful burgundy color.  Also the pockets, gotta love a dress with pockets.

Lou & Grey Specklestripe Dolman Top – Another play on the classic stripe shirt, in a darker color and cool speckle print on the stripe.  A shirt that will fit right in for an afternoon sitting on your porch drinking hot coco.

Lou & Grey Brushstroke Tunic – Recently I’ve been obsessed with this rich indigo color, it is not the warm red that is in right now, but I think this is the cool sister that will work great with girls that normally lean towards cooler tone outfits.

Lou & Grey Leather Front Leggings – You really can’t kick start fall without leggings, especially leather leggings!  This pair of legging gives you the chick biker girl look on the front, but still have the comfort you look for when wearing leggings on the back.  The best of both worlds.

A week in outfits #5

I think now its safe to say that fall is officially upon us!  This week we’ve consistently have weather in the 60s and 70s during the day and sometimes down to 50s at night which is very exciting, though I heard it’s going to get up to the 80s this weekend…  That aside, I started breaking out my scarves, vests and cute socks (the underrated accessory that can help up your outfit game and everyone should pay more attention to especially in the colder weather) for this week’s outfits, along with lots of comfortable sweaters, denims and boots.  I hope you enjoy!

Texture rich is key

Isn’t it always a great feeling to get through Monday in one piece?  I’ve had quite a productive weekend which makes coming back to work extra tiring because I feel like I didn’t get much rest, so for my first day back to work I wore an outfit that makes me feel comfortable and relaxed.

Hope y’all had a great start of the week, and happy not Monday!

A week in outfits #2

A week in outfits 2 so soon you say?  Well yes, I’m a little surprised myself too.  After the first installment of {A week in outfits} I was just itching to do a second one, and as a spare of the moment thing I decided to do a second post this week, I guess you can call this an impulse post, haha.  Hope you enjoy it!

A week in outfits #1

Continuing with my {A week in Lou & Grey} post, I’ve decided to start an “A week in outfits” series as a way for me to see what pieces I wear the most and what are their effects on me.  Not only is this a good way to help me get a sense of my style and shop smarter, it will also help me prep for my capsule wardrobe challenge starting in September.  Of course I’m still going to be doing individual ootd posts, but I will be mixing them up as this will be more of a show and the other is more of a tell!
