Capsule Wardrobe key items | Spring & Summer 2015

For this capsule wardrobe, there are a few key items that I’m extremely excited about and would love to share with you guys! Below are some new addition for my spring and summer wardrobe. I really love them all and hope that they would be helpful for those who are looking to add a few pieces in their wardrobe!

  1. Zara TRF Leather Jacket with Zip (similar here)
I’ve been searching, searching and searching for this jacket ever since I saw it on Claire’s leather jacket video (also in love with the music), after searching all over the internet, going through many ups and downs and almost giving up on trying, I found one for $95 on eBay! It was such a bargain I could not believe my eyes when I first saw the listing. The jacket arrived a few days ago and it’s as dreamy and amazing as I imagined it to be! Though it might be a little too warm now that we’re a little far into spring and closing in on summer, I’m so excited to have it for the fall, winter, next spring and so on!
  2. Free People Sunchaser Shoeboot
I finally bit the bullet and got these beauties! And honestly, even though the reviews online are not all great, personally I love them. I love the beautiful, complicated details on the shoes, they’re one of those statement shoes that as soon as you put them on, they elevates your overall look. And I also like how easy they are to get on and off with the zipper on the back.
  3. Lou & Grey Windowpane Mesh-Trim Tee (similar but solid color here)
I got a size S which is 1 to 2 sizes larger than my usual size because that was the only size left, but I really love the flow of it and the windowpane patter is not overwhelming like some of the other options I’ve seen since it’s only at the front torso area. It is also extremely comfortable like all the other Lou & Grey items.
  4. Lou & Grey Duo Tee
I used to be scared and can almost say I felt negatively when it comes to buying white clothing, I thought it will get dirty too easily and the upkeep is going to be obnoxious. After so many years of wanting white but avoiding getting them, I finally gave in and got a white tee. I really love the mix material and the bottom shirttail flows so beautifully! White really is a great color for the warmer weather because it makes you feel so refreshing when you wear it.
  5. Birkenstock Arizona Soft Footbed Suede Sandal
This has been on my mind since last year, but since I wasn’t really sure how I would like the style, I got a similar style/cheaper pair on Zara to test out the water first before investing a lot of money on a real pair. I actually didn’t wear the pair from Zara other than trying it on at home and for blog pictures because the color was a little too out there for what I wanted. I ended up selling that pair on Poshmark and getting a pair of Birks to replace it, and I’m so glad I did. They’re so comfortable and the neutral color and relaxed style is exactly what I was looking for!
  6. Lou & Grey Tees (also love this and this)
I don’t really have a lot of short sleeve tees other than a few I got from Target years ago that are at the end of their life, so after studying my wardrobe and seeing what I’ve been reaching for the most this past few weeks, which are all Lou & Grey tanks and light weight long sleeves, I decided to get a few short sleeve basics from Lou & Grey to add to my collection (yes I’m obsessed). I really love the quality of their shirts and the color for this spring is just too cute. Spicy orange anyone?
  7. TOMS Majorca Suede Bootie
This pair is simply amazing. They’re on trend, stylish and so so comfortable! I spotted these on Nordstrom a while ago and when they were doing their triple points event, I immediately grabbed them. Even with the 2.75″ heel they are still very easy to walk in, and the perforated detail is gorgeous and make wearing them in the warmer months bearable. If you get one new pair of footwear this season, get these!

Capsule wardrobe | Spring & Summer 2015

Because of my recent move and the uncertainty of where I will be for the next few months, I’ve been postponing this capsule wardrobe post for so long that I decided to consolidate my spring and summer capsule wardrobe. For this spring and summer, I’m pulling out some of the pieces I got last year when I first moved up to DC and mixing in with a few new additions! Today I’m going to run you though the list of how many items I have for each category and a brief description.

Tops x 10

During the spring time in DC it can get ridiculously hot and humid during the day but chill at night. I find the best solution to this is lighter long sleeves or short sleeves with another layer over it. I’m pulling out some of my lighter fall pieces to add to the mix as I think they work really well for my style, and I’m also adding a few basic short sleeves for the summer months because it’s one of the things I’m really lacking in my wardrobe.

Outerwear x 6

I love comfortable, loose fitting cardigans for spring and summer. Last year I wore this cardigan to pieces and am planning on bringing it out again for this season. I’m also adding in my brown faux leather jacket that I have forgotten about, a light weight pink Lou & Grey moto jacket from last season, the Aritzia Trooper I got on Poshmark and the Zara leather jacket I’ve been pining over for months for the spring part of the capsule wardrobe.

Dresses x 3

I’m not a big dress gal as I find them slightly inconvenient when I want to put my leg up or sit indian style at my desk at work. I do really like the effortless but put together layer look they give when you pair it with sweaters, cardigans, tees or jackets, but they’re just something I don’t reach for as much as I should. I’m keeping my dress count to a minimal to see if I’ll actually wear them and help get an idea of what I should do in the future when it comes to dress shopping.

Bottoms x 8

I’m not really adding anything new here, just my Loft jeans and ASOS midi skirt from last fall and my Madewell jeans from the winter. I am however considering getting a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans or shorts for the weekends where I want to be comfortable but still stylish and not sloppy. And of course there will be some swapping out when it gets warmer in the summer, replacing a few pair of jeans with shorts or lighter weight pants from storage.

Shoes x 10

The one thing that makes me sad about the weather getting warmer is that I will not be able to wear boots as much… I have a few pair of flats but they’re kind of old and worn out, I haven’t been able to find new ones that I love and are comfortable yet so I will continue to wear them till I do. I did however find some sandals that I think will be getting some seriously love this spring and summer! So for now on the closed toe shoes department I’m sticking with the old flats and slip-ons I already have and my Nike Free.

Capsule wardrobe update | Spring 2015

Some of you are probably wondering what is happening with my capsule wardrobe challenge, and no I haven’t forgotten or abandon it, right now I’m just kind of stuck because the weather here is still a little chilly and can go down to the 40s some days, so I’m still using most of the pieces from my winter capsule wardrobe.  On top of that, I’ll be moving out of my current apartment by the end of April, so I’m trying to start packing things up and refrain myself from purchasing any new items till I move.  But I promise I will give you an update on my capsule wardrobe once I’m moved!

This spring, I’m focusing on a few things – Layering pieces, comfortable shoes, versatile jackets, some good quality basics and a few “basics but not so basics”.  There are a few new items I already acquired, and a few that are on my shopping list after I move, but I’m beyond excited!  I think I’ve slowly figured out what works for me and what doesn’t, with the help of listing items I haven’t wore/used in 6+ months, or items I just don’t love on myself on Poshmark, it helps me define my personal style even more.  There are a few items that were mentioned at the beginning of my blogging adventure that I think no longer suites me, but I’m learning from my experience!  Just like what Caroline from Un-Fancy always says – How fascinating!

Seeing how my style has changed and evolved though the year, especially after I sign myself up with the capsule wardrobe challenge makes me realize what’s important and necessary and what’s not.  I’m really enjoying pairing down my wardrobe, and hopefully in the near future I will have one that will only need to be updated when I need to replace one of the current items.

A week in outfits #10

It’s been a while since I’ve done an “A week in outfits” post, sorry guys!  I’ve been savoring the extra 10 min of sleep every morning instead of waking up early to take photos…  Anyway, I’m finally posting my first outfit post for the winter!  A lot of the items were thrifted from eBay/Poshmark or bought from abroad, so I’ll try to do my best to find similar pieces and link them.  Hope y’all enjoy!

Capsule wardrobe | Winter 2015

I can’t believe its taken me this long to finally finish this post…  Since I was away for the holiday I didn’t really have time to fully prepared for my winter capsule wardrobe, so it’s taken me a while to complete the edits… But I’m glad it’s finally done!

I have a lot of tops carrying over from my fall capsule wardrobe, I pulled out a few from my storage, and have 3 new items.  My bottoms however, are all new because the ones I had for my fall wardrobe are way too thin/short for the winter unfortunately.  The main focus of my capsule wardrobe are the coats, I love them all and am so happy with my picks!  A neutral/tan color formal coat and a pepper color oversize coat from my storage, a brown/olive color anorak with fur hoodie from Nordstrom and an amazing 100% shearling coat I found on eBay!  They are all extremely warm and comfortable, and have been keeping me warm during my first winter in DC.

Overall, I’m glad that a lot of the tops I have in my winter wardrobe are the same as my fall wardrobe, which means I’m starting to narrow down my style!  I’ve also come to accept the fact that it’s hard/impossible to keep the same coats in my fall and winter rotation since I live in a city where the temperature can drop to the teens during winter… But I really enjoy having 4 distinct season because it allows me to have more opportunities to play around with outfits.  I’m glad I’m keeping up with the capsule wardrobe challenge, and can’t wait to see more progress on finding my style!

Capsule wardrobe prep | Winter 2015

With winter fast approaching and Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, I’ve started planning my winter capsule wardrobe so I can make sure I get a good deal during the sales.

I got some ideas of what I need to deal with the winter here in DC thanks to the below freezing temperature we have here recently, so to start the prep I’ve made a list of things I think I will need to survive the winter.  Lots of warm cozy knits, big coats, warm boots, etc.  Here’s a short list of things with links to a few items I will most likely be adding to my wardrobe:

capsule wardrobe prep winter 15

  1. Winter coat // Seriously loving this, this, and this. I like my coats to be on the large side so I can layer thick/chunky knits underneath and still be comfortable!
  2. Oversize cardigan // Can’t wait to snuggle in this and this!  I just want to be all wrapped up in these, they’re great for layering too.
  3. Warm boots // An important element to surviving the snow day and to avoid slipping, you can’t go outside without this, this, this or this.
  4. Cords // Sometimes jeans are just not thick enough for the cold winter, to keep your legs warm try this, this and this.
  5. Knits // You really don’t need a reason to cozy up, this one and this one are my top choices!

Don’t forget to subscribe to the stores you love for their Black Friday deals!  Some stores like Madewell and Shopbop already started theirs so make sure to grab the hot items you want before they’re gone!
