Today’s on my mind lately I want to focus on something I’ve actually never thought I would, the OTK (over the knee) boots! I’m fairly petite sitting at around 5’2.5″/160cm, and my body proportion is also not the best, so you can kinda imagine how short my legs are. I avoided OTK boots for years because they usually make me look even shorter, or the cut of where you knee is supposed to bend is too high for my legs… But recently I’ve just been in the mood for black boots and after seeing them all over the web I decided to snoop around the OTK section on various websites. I really don’t like heels that are too skinny or high because it’s not very practical, so wanted to focus on boots with chunky heels around 3 inches, but knowing my body proportion I think wearing something with some height will probably look best. Below are some of my picks with a mix of low and high heel over the knee boots! Do you have a favorite pair of over the knee boots?
I’ve always been a brown boots girl, even though I’ve owned a few pairs of black boots before, they always seem to be neglected, live quietly at the corner of my closet for a few months and then to the donation pile. But recently I’ve been falling for everything black, particularly all black booties – black leather, black heels, black zippers, the whole nine yard.
My affection for black boots started with the Acne Studio Jensen Booties a few months back when I saw them on multiple blogs, they’re a pair of classic looking black pointed boots with low heel that looks super easy to walk in, sound right up my alley. But, I just couldn’t justify spending $500+ on a pair of boots at this stage of my life (or ever). When I found the ASOS Right About Now Western Pointed Chelsea Ankle Boots, I knew they would be a great, affordable dupe for me to try and see if I’ll actually like them on me. Upon receiving them and trying them on, I have to say I love them even more than I originally thought I would! They’re extremely comfortable and are so easy to slip on, the leather like material has a beautiful grain look which is what I wanted when looking at the Jensen (the Jensen comes in smooth, grain and suede I believe, but I think the grain looks the best and will also age the best). They’re truly a beautiful pair of boots and at such an amazing price point too! I’ve been looking for a pair of slip on boots to replace my brown Nine West ones for over a year, and I think I found them.
The second pair that’s been added to my collection was actually an unplanned purchase. I came across a pair of Madewell Ames Boots one day while browsing on Poshmark, at first I was just interested in them because of the amazing price tag (the “amazing sale you just can’t pass on” type buying urge), but after doing a little research and looking up some more photos of how they look on, I find myself constantly thinking about them. I actually waited a week or so – risking it being sold in the mean time, before purchasing them because I wasn’t 100% sure about the condition of the boots and the sizing, but I’m so glad I took the risk and got them! Even though there are some slight creasing you can see, it’s really not noticeable when you’re wearing them, and the size is actually perfect for my feet with socks on. I took them with me when I went down to Atlanta for a wedding, and they’re so comfortable and versatile that they ended up being the only shoes I wore all weekend other than the heels for the actual wedding. They’re not only great for elevating your outfit when you just want to wear a simple jeans and t-shirt combo, but also nice enough to pair with a more formal look. I wore them with my rehearsal dinner dress (ASOS Africa Lace Maxi Dress) and I love the look they add to the whole outfit, I even walked the Atlanta Beltline with them on afterwards and it didn’t cause any pain! They’re honestly the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten on Poshmark and I cannot be happier. (As a side note, I actually looked at the Ames boots last year in brown, but ended up going with another pair of brown boots. Who knew I would end up getting them a year later anyway!)
I love these 2 pairs so much that I’m seriously considering getting backups for them just in case, haha. I think they’ll be my go to for this F/W, but I also want to find another pair that are shorter, more ankle height to add to the mix. I loved the look of the Dolce Vita Jaeger Booties but the material didn’t exactly fit what I was looking for, so if you have a pair of black ankle boots you love or have seen some great ones online, please share with me!
I have to admit, I’m pretty boring when it comes to shoes. I just want them to be comfortable and easy to get on and off, the rest I like to keep them simple. But recently I’ve been looking through Free People, maybe because it’s festival season, or maybe because I’m just feeling a little funky and adventurous lately, I don’t know, but I kinda like it. I might not be brave enough to actually wear some of these, but hey, they sure are fun to look at!
- Free People Rendering Crochet Clog
I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of clogs, quite honestly I thought they were weird looking and too chunky. But when I saw this pair I was extremely attracted to it! I love the mix of perforated and solid leather and think it’s beautiful, and the platform look actually doesn’t bother me as much (seeing all the pictures of people wearing them on their website). I am also surprised by how much I like the black pair as I never really cared for the black with brown/wood heel mix, but on this pair I think it works so well together as the wood part makes the shoes look not as heavy compare to if it’s all black. My main concerns with these are that they look a little difficult to get on (read: no zippers, extra time to take on and off) and I won’t be brave enough to wear them to work as people at my work dress pretty conservatively… But they’re definitely on my wishlist!
- Free People Sunchaser Shoeboot
THESE! Now these are a pair that I can see myself wearing everywhere, I’m completely in love with these and have been eyeing them for a long time now. What’s stopping me from buying other then the somewhat hefty price tag is the fact that the reviews for them are not great, a lot of people are saying they’re not comfortable which is very unfortunate. I’m still keeping these in my wishlist as one day maybe I’ll get them to try for myself, but for now they’re on hold.
- Birkenstock Pisa
I’m eyeing the Arizona because I want a pair of comfortable sandals for the summer, but these are also adorable and very unique! I’ve never owned a pair of Birks before so I think I will go for the classic Arizona as my first pair, and if I like them enough maybe I’ll get a funky pair in the future!
- Freebird by Steven Eagle Heel Boot
Honestly I don’t really get the point of peep toe boots… When you wear boots you want them to be warm, when you want open toe shoes its because you want to keep your feet cool and able to breath in the warmer temperature, so why do peep toe boots? Fashion before practicality I guess. I do think these are interesting and fun, the color is very different than what I usually go for but I think they’ll be perfect for spring or fall.
- Jeffrey Campbell Minimal Lace Up Heel
I love the color of these shoes! They’re gorgeous and fun but at the same time you can still wear them with different colors/outfits. I usually go for brown or black shoes because they match everything and will never go out of style, but for these I think the berry is my favorite of them all! I think the berry is dark and rich enough that, like navy can go with a lot of things and can be a great addition for any wardrobe. I also love the lace and the openness of the shoe, great for showing off some skin when you’re wearing pants/jeans, and will help elongate your legs when wearing shorts/skirts.

It’s been a while since I’ve done an “A week in outfits” post, sorry guys! I’ve been savoring the extra 10 min of sleep every morning instead of waking up early to take photos… Anyway, I’m finally posting my first outfit post for the winter! A lot of the items were thrifted from eBay/Poshmark or bought from abroad, so I’ll try to do my best to find similar pieces and link them. Hope y’all enjoy!
I was never a slippers gal, I thought they were kind of restricting and annoying, and I also didn’t think they’re that practical because I have lots of socks in my drawers that I can easily put on if my feet get cold. But I recently gave in because I wanted something that I can easily slip on and off if I need to run out real quick and for whenever I go over to Brian’s house (hardwood floors everywhere = cold to walk around), I opt for a cheap pair from TJ Maxx because I wanted to see how often I’ll actually wear them, and the answer is all the damn time! I wear them in the house, outside the house (I picked out one with thick rubber soles which allows them to be wearable outdoor, but usually only to and from my car), whenever I can. There’s just something about a pair of fuzzy slippers that puts you in a good mood and the holiday spirit, and I’m loving them!
I’ve round up a few adorable options that I absolutely love, hopefully they’ll help keep your feet warm 24/7!

With winter fast approaching and Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, I’ve started planning my winter capsule wardrobe so I can make sure I get a good deal during the sales.
I got some ideas of what I need to deal with the winter here in DC thanks to the below freezing temperature we have here recently, so to start the prep I’ve made a list of things I think I will need to survive the winter. Lots of warm cozy knits, big coats, warm boots, etc. Here’s a short list of things with links to a few items I will most likely be adding to my wardrobe:
- Winter coat // Seriously loving this, this, and this. I like my coats to be on the large side so I can layer thick/chunky knits underneath and still be comfortable!
- Oversize cardigan // Can’t wait to snuggle in this and this! I just want to be all wrapped up in these, they’re great for layering too.
- Warm boots // An important element to surviving the snow day and to avoid slipping, you can’t go outside without this, this, this or this.
- Cords // Sometimes jeans are just not thick enough for the cold winter, to keep your legs warm try this, this and this.
- Knits // You really don’t need a reason to cozy up, this one and this one are my top choices!
Don’t forget to subscribe to the stores you love for their Black Friday deals! Some stores like Madewell and Shopbop already started theirs so make sure to grab the hot items you want before they’re gone!
For me boots are year round staples! I love wearing them for any occasion because they’re so comfortable, I love them so much I prefer them over heeled sandals and try to wear them as much as possible in the summer time.
Though I love boots always, it’s hard to justify buying boots till fall and winter, I already purchased 2 pairs from Loft (you can read about them here) but of course one can’t simply have enough boots in the shoe closet. I tend to lean towards booties because they’re easier to put on (and take off) and since I’m in the office for the majority of the day I don’t really want to sit in knee high boots all day and overheat my legs. I do love a good pair of knee high every now and then but I just don’t find myself wearing them that often anymore.
I’m being very patient and as selective as I can when it comes to picking out new items now because of the capsule wardrobe challenge, but I’m seriously loving all of these, so you just might see one or two of them in my next capsule wardrobe!
